Greetings everyone!
For the month of July we have one natural history field trip program planned for you, the public, courtesy of the Cable Natural History Museum.
Wednesday July 9th: Pipestone Creek from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m.
Nestled in a rich mesic forest the heart of the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, this small waterfall and scenic red quartzite canyon has remarkable cultural and natural history significance. Pipestone deposits occurring within the hard quartzite have been mined for centuries by various tribes inhabiting the region. Geologically, being atop one of the northernmost of the Blue Hills, the canyon tells the story of a lofty mountain range eroding away in ages gone by and of the first appearance of breathable amounts of oxygen in the atmosphere.
Sturdy footwear is recommended due to the rough, uneven terrain.
For those of you coming from the north, we will meet in front of the Cable Natural History Museum and carpool to the field site. For those to the south, if you make arrangements, we can meet you in the L & M Fleet Supply parking lot in Hayward. The field trip program is sponsored by the museum at a cost of $35 for members/$45 for non-members. Please feel free to bring the entire family to enjoy Nature and learn more about its wonders. This educational hike is not fully handicapped-accessible. Participants must bring their own bag lunches.
Please make sure that you register for the field tripat cablemuseum.org/events or call 715-798-3890. Space is limited, so register early.
Für unsere Exkursionen sind Deutsch sprechende Teilnehmer herzlich eingeladen. Erläuterungen in Deutsch stellen kein Problem dar.
Hope y’all can join us!
